Print and Image
Sales.
Most of the images displayed
on the website are available as unframed, unsigned, prints on
quality photo paper including Moab, Epson, Kodak, and Fuji papers,
in just about any size, for a reasonable fee.
Generally the image is centered on the
standard sized paper with a minimum border of about 1/2 inch to
1-1/2 inches. Due to an image's shape some prints will have larger
borders and some borders may be up to 3" or so on two sides. Some
images may have larger borders due to technical limitations of the
image file or ratios of the image's shape or size. The bigger the
print size, the larger the cost.
The image below shows the general layout
of a typical 11x14 print.

Larger sized prints have
similar image to paper size ratios.
If you need custom borders on
a print or cannot get proper framing of the image in the on line
order preview window for the size print you want, call or email.
We can can customize the cropping to order for most prints
sizes.
Digital
Images.
Many of the images shown on this website
are also available as a digital file. Rates on digital images are royalty free, but not
all images shown are available for sale as digital
files.
There are special rates available for
single use publication of images or single use art applications.
Call [515] 267-1436 or email for those rates.
Many digital images may also be purchased
for unlimited use by the purchaser. Charges for these rights to an
image vary by image and photographer. Most files are immediately available as .jpg files. Other
common computer formats are available on custom order or request
[tif, psd, pdf, etc.]

Decoding file or
catalog numbers.
Files are named in the following format:
xxx-name-season-location-date-modifier-seriesnumber.filetype.
The reason the files are named this way is
so, at a glance, you, the customer, may get a general idea of what
the subject is, when and where the photo was taken, all without
having to open the metadata file. This also minimizes the
photographer's written entries at the time the image is submitted
to us.
The file numbers for the files listed are
coded or cataloged generally as .jpg files. As an example
"016 flower_lily winter chicago_ill 29feb87 c1 bw
2569.jpg" decodes as follows -
'016' is the
photographer's identifier or code - this is an optional entry and
may or may not be included in the file name . It can be 3 digit
number or letters.
'flower_lily' is the
subject of the image, this entry is usually singular and is a very
simple description of the subject
'winter' is the season,
this entry was needed to keep the newer images compatible with an
analog file system from pre-metadata times. Season names used were
winter, spring, summer, & fall. Note: season entries are being
phased out as time permits.
'chicago_ill' is the
location the photo was taken. The underline connects a city and a
state or a multi-word location. States usually have three letter
identifiers and if no state is listed, the photo was taken in Iowa.
'co' indicates county. A photo taken in an Iowa county would read '
dallas_co' while one taken in Cook County, Illinois might read
'cook_co_ill', or for King County, Washington State, 'king_co_wst'.
Washington, DC is usually 'wdc', New York and New Jersey are
similar to n_y, n_j or ny_, nj_. "nlg" or "nolog" indicate location
information is unknown.
'29feb87' is the date the
photo or image was taken, if known, some dates may show as "ndg"
[no date given] or be a season followed only by a year
identifier.
'c1 bw' is code to
differentiate a cropped or color modified file from the original.
It is usually separated from the rest of the file name by a
dash.
'2569' is the series
number for the image, this may be a number, letter, or a
combination of letters and numbers.
.jpg is the file type,
and may or may not be included in the file name. Images are usually
filed, sorted, or cataloged as .jpg's. Most images are also
available in common formats such as .tif and psd, either in rgb or
cmyk. Just ask. We're here to sell pictures.
