Welcome to the Stone's Throwe
website.
Stone's
Throwe LLC is a stock photography outlet for several commercial
photographers based in or around West Des Moines, Iowa, that began
as Reynolds Photography in the late '60's and has specialized in
sales of unframed photographic prints since the
mid-'70's.
Print and
image sales went "internet" in February of 2005, and Reynolds
Photography was joined by Iowa photographers Jen McKibben, Toni
Kirschbaum, Dave Warner, Richard Hildreth, and Whitney
Warner.
All the 'member' photographers
work out of our homes, with studios or offices there, so we don't
have a single studio where you can browse our combined
work.
Our passion is photography,
and we hope you enjoy our images here, on line, as much as we enjoy
creating them.
We sell quality prints,
digital images, and provide commercial photography services in the

Print and Image
Sales.
Most of the images displayed
on the website are available as unframed, unsigned, matte surface
prints in just about any size, for a reasonable fee.
All images are printed on
high quality Moab, Epson matte, or Kodak luster surface papers, and
any price shown includes shipping and taxes.
Generally the image is centered on the
standard sized paper with a minimum border of about 1/2 inch to
1-1/2 inches. Due to an image's shape some prints will have larger
borders and some borders may be up to 3" or so on two sides. Some
images may have larger borders due to technical limitations of the
image file or ratios of the image's shape or size. The bigger the
print size, the larger the cost.
The image below shows the general layout
of a typical 11x14 print.

Larger sized prints have similar image to paper
size ratios.
Signed, unframed prints of
most images are available in the larger formats [like 13x19",
16x20", or larger] as limited edition prints, with prices ranging
from $60 to $300 per print.
Some images are available
only as limited edition prints, and most non-portrait images are
available on either 4x5" or 5x7" [horizontal or vertical] greeting
cards, with a blank inside. Custom ordered cards in either size are
available with custom imprints inside.
Digital
Images.
Many of the images shown on this website
are also available as a digital file. A typical digital file costs
between $100.00 and $250.00, plus tax.
Rates on digital images are royalty free,
but, not all images shown are available for sale as digital
files.
There are special rates available for one
time media [i.e. magazine, newspaper] use of images. Call [515]
267-1436 or email for those rates.
Images may also be purchased for the
exclusive use of the purchaser. Charges for exclusive rights to an
image vary by image and photographer. Images purchased for
exclusive rights become the property of the purchaser and no
further sales of that image will be made by Stone's Throwe LLC and
that image will be deleted from our files after the customer
confirms delivery of the file. We can keep a copy of an exclusive
use purchase as a back up, if the customer requests it.
Most files are immediately available as
.jpg files. Other common computer formats are available on custom
order or request [tif, psd, pfd, etc.]

Decoding file or
catalog numbers.
Files are named in the following format:
xxx-name-season-location-date-modifier-seriesnumber.filetype.
The reason the files are named this way is
so, at a glance, you, the customer, may get a general idea of what
the subject is, when and where the photo was taken, all without
having to open the metadata file. This also minimizes the
photographer's written entries at the time the image is submitted
to us.
The file numbers for the files listed are
coded or cataloged generally as .jpg files. As an example
"016 red flower winter chicago_ill 29feb87 cut1 -30brite
2569.jpg" decodes as follows -
'016' is the
photographer's identifier or code - this is an optional entry and
may or may not be included in the file name . It can be 3 digit
number or letters.
'red_flower' is the
subject of the image, this entry is usually singular and is a very
simple description of the subject
'winter' is the season,
this entry is/was needed, in the past, to keep the newer images
compatible with an older file system from pre-metadata times.
Season names used were winter, spring, summer, & fall. Note:
newer images [ those added or modified after 15 Apr
05] probably have no season entry or only an abbreviated
season entry.
'chicago_ill' is the
location the photo was taken. The underline connects a city and a
state or a multi-word location. States usually have three letter
identifiers and if no state is listed, the photo was taken in Iowa.
'co' indicates county. A photo taken in an Iowa county would read '
dallas_co' while one taken in Cook County, Illinois might read
'cook_co_ill', or for King County, Washington State, 'king_co_wst'.
Washington, DC is usually 'wdc', New York and New Jersey are
similar to n_y, n_j or ny_, nj_. "nlg" or "nolog" indicate no
location information was given.
'29feb87' is the date the
photo or image was taken, if known, some dates may show as "ndg"
[no date given] or be a season followed only by a year
identifier.
'cut 1 -30brite' is code
to differentiate a cropped or color modified file from the
original. It is usually separated from the rest of the file name by
a dash.
'2569' is the series
number for the image, this may be a number, letter, or a
combination of letters and numbers.
.jpg is the file type,
and may or may not be included in the file name. Images are usually
filed, sorted, or cataloged as .jpg's. Most images are also
available in common formats such as .tif and psd, either in rgb or
cmyk. Just ask. We're here to sell pictures.
